His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive council, directs the publication, in accordance with the municipalities Act of 1867, of the substance and prayer of a petition addressed to His Excellency, and signed by 225 persons, praying that their locality therein defined may be erected into a municipality, under the name of the
"Municipal District of Bega."
The first meeting of the newly elected councilors was fixed for Tuesday, ~ December, at
11.30 am. at Mr J Underhill’s office.
The Temporary Council will meet at the same date at I0.OOam.
Accounts amounting to £ 11/5/4 were passed for payment.
The clerk was instructed to request the returning officer to expedite his accounts so that

Shires. Cr. Handcock moved the motion and Cr. Rogers spoke in support. Cr. Tarlinton
spoke in opposition.
It was decided to wait till they have the opinion of ratepayers.

Mumbulla Shire Council re-elected Cr. T F Kennedy as president for a 3~’ term. His allowance was fixed as £25. He had 37 years service and will retire next year.

Cr. R Allen of Cobargo was elected president of the Mumbulla Shire, replacing Cr. J J

The Petitioners state that they are desirous that the town of Bega should be erected into a Municipality, and that upon incorporation they would be liable to be assessed for municipal rates.
They state the population of the proposed municipality is over five hundred, and that the area thereof dose not exceed ten square miles.
That the following are the boundaries of the proposed Municipality:
Commencing at the south-west corner of portion 64, bounded on the west, north, and part of the east by the bega river to the south-easterly corner of portion 12; thence by a line bearing south 59 degrees 30 minutes west, 99 chains 25 links, being the northerly boundary of a road 1 chain wide to the south-westerly corner of portion 35; thence by a line bearing north 30 degrees 30 minutes west, 6 chains;
And the petitioners pray "that your excellency may be pleased to take the premises into favourable consideration, and that the proposed municipality may be declared a Municipal district within the boundaries in this petition set forth"

The Hydro-electricity Scheme
Proposed County Council
The committee representing Bega Municipality and Imlay Shires, appointed some months ago to investigate the matter of a County Council in control of the Bemboka hydro scheme, met at Bega on Tuesday night last week.
The delegates were Bega, the Mayor (Ald. Rosenthail) and Aid. Ayres and Morgan; Mumbulla, the President, Cr. Sullivan and Crs. Rogers and Handcock; Imlay, the President Cr Wiles, and Crs. Taylor and Allen. Cr. Ryan and Aid. Foley and Robertson were also present in addition to Mr Boone, of the Local Government Department, and Mr McCaliion of the Electricity Department.
Decision that the proposed County Council purchase the powerhouse and electricity supply from Mr McKenzie. Bega Municipal Council will borrow £15,000 to take over the local electricity undertaking.

Aid. Rogers moved that the Municipal Council petition the Governor to constitute a
county council of Bega Municipality and Imlay and Mumbulia Shires.
March 1938 (BDN 21 March 1938)

Aids. — Rogers, Douglas, Robertson, Foley, Bobbins, Ayres, Dicker and Rosenthall.
Aid. Foley moved that a subcommittee be appointed to go into the matter of amalgamation with the County Council in using the new offices in Auckland Street. Aid. Ayres seconded. Aid. Dicker agreed. Aid. Rosenthali was opposed. He said the Council Chambers should be in a central position. The court house was still under consideration and there was a possibility of getting it. The noise of the engines at the powerhouse would be bad for meetings of Council. Bega Council had moved to the School of Arts to help a struggling public body and he would not like to see Council in a back street. Cr. Sebbens asked why the County Council wanted to build offices when the previous owner carried on in the present premises for 12 years. If they were good enough for Mr McKenzie it should be good enough for the County Council.
Aid. Rogers, as chairman of the County Council said he knew nothing about the suggestion.
The motion was carried, AId Rosenthali, Sebbens & Robertson against, and the Mayor and Aid. Dicker and Robertson were appointed to go into the matter.
